Happy New ….sneakers!
….Well I wish I could say they all came for me thanks to an overly generous Santa but alas no, I wasn’t any where near the “Nice” list 😉 Just a few shots that I finally got around to uploading.
Nike Air Jordan – Rare Air
With the flurry of hype over the latest Jordan retros, the AJ IV “Breds” we thought we’d crack the box on a pick up from a few years back, the “Rare Airs”, which combine (in our opinion 😉 ) the best Jordan’s ever, the 4’s, 5’s and 6’s into an unlikely mash of colour and textures yet like a perfect storm seems to just work.
High fives to those that did score a pair and condolences to those that camped out, missed out then overpaid on ebay!

The Artisan gallery is currently hosting two great exhibits for the price of one at one great price… FREE!
The main event is a broad cross section of sneaker styles, purposes and colours; some iconic, some WTF but most dialing in some form of wow factor. The display is set to a rough time line of major sneaker related events through out their history. Individual items are also numbered and are available for look up via a Supercheap Auto oil/air filter, paint code booklet on a chain deal. Some random facts are also included which made for hushed gallery library voices to be broken with honks of chuckling.
As a bonus, a side feature of the exhibit includes the Converse Blank Canvas Project where plain Chuck Taylor Cons were given to local artists to customise or convert. Some pieces were outlandish and featured a lot of intricate work while others seem like they were thrown together during morning tea at a Westfield arts and crafts kids minding stand. However, my favourite pieces weren’t artist pieces but the anatomy of a Chuck and the history of Converse wall (even if there weren’t any of the ERX series!).
Our buds over at Sneaker Freaker provided a fair portion of the exhibits and information so if you’ve been around the traps you may have seen quite a few of the items before but its still worth a look to see them all in the one place (and pick up a free copy of Sneaker Freaker mag 😉 ).
Even if you only have even a passing interest in funky footwear and 20min to spare after you’ve stuffed yourself at Harajuku Gyoza then its definitely worth a look.
The exhibit runs till August 16, 2012.

Nike Air Vengeance
“Vintage is back..” fictitious ad campaign.
These bad boys were originally released in 1985 but have had the remake treatment like so many other Nike models in the last 5 years.
They keep true to the styling and materials but with modern build quality and colourways. This “maize” colour got a more limited release as opposed to the red or blue, so the choice was easy, even if I was already sold on that colour 😉
A side note, not being very Photoshop literate, this is actually the first time I’ve ever used gradients on an image (applied to the original image) so it makes it a little special. But don’t worry, I have no inclination to become a shop-tographer anytime soon!

Those of you who frequent sneaker nut site Sneaker Freaker or have been to a few big name festivals will be familiar with the work by Daymonart, or if you’re a Melbourne local you’d probably know him as Daymon Greulich.
The bold and colourful sneaker pieces are of course our faves but there are heaps of other designs and concert/gig posters available in his web store.
Standard A2 sized posters are around a very affordable $25. Some pieces aren’t listed in the store but drop him a line and see if he can do a limited edition print for you.
With our move to the new SBM HQ winding up and the decorating beginning, we couldn’t help but to snatch up a couple more works to deck out the new digs!

Adidas Attitude High – Mock Ad
Gotta love the Attitudes series with their vibrant “those colours should not go together but some how it works” colour schemes and their chubby stature.
A lazy weekend and a bucket of chalk = another one of my fictitious campaigns
This is the first installment of “Under the Tongue” sub blog. Basically, its a review of sneakers and associated fashion. The difference being these reviews will be from a practical/wearable angle, not just looks alone, of items I personally own or use and not just regurgitating a media brief or guessing what material is used/what it would be like in action from a reblogged photo (incidentally as with all posts in this blog, all photos are taken by us).
So, these are actually my first pair of Adidas, believe it or not. I’ve always liked the styling and some of the superstar releases have been insane but they’ve always looked a bit funny on my feet. Not sure why, maybe I’m just used to looking down and seeing a Nike tick 😉
But when you combine a half-cab cut, subtle suede and a classic retro styling in a simple colour way, its very hard to say no!
In another insomnia induced marketing brainstorm I came up with another one of my fictitious ad campaigns.
Under the Tongue:
– 3 different grades of suede on the upper
– they fit true to size
– sole is on the thinner side, presumably for the skate market and subsequently as comfortable as a skate shoe after long periods of wear.
– quality control is a little hit and miss. I looked at 3 diff. pairs and all had inconsistent shaping of the toe sole. Instead of cutting straight down, one of the shoes would have a slight angling outwards (visible in the photo).
– being suede, don’t do what I did with my J5’s and wear them out in the rain, unless you want to give them that 5yo look in the time it takes you to say “holy sun shower batman”
– These have yet to hit AU shores and with no word on a local release, you will need to get clicking to find a pair.
Roundhouse kicks!
There’s probably only one thing we like more than toys and that’s shoes! It’s like the toys you can wear on your feet! …well kinda. But, gosh darn it, if they don’t make you feel like a million bucks when you slip on a new pair 😀
Here’s just some of our collection. The ones that look like I had 2 seconds to shoot them is because I only had 2 seconds to shoot them! Never stand in the way of a girl and her new kicks!
