Future returned to its original home this year, while it was skeptical that would also be a return of the torrential rain and sloppy conditions of old it was the complete opposite with the festival gods smiling down with perfect weather. Production was upped with plenty of confetti and CO2 cannons, pyrotechnics and lighting along with an updated stage layout. All in all another epic day on the field.

Photos shot for The Music (Brisbane).
Future Music Festival pretty much marks the wind down of the festival season and in Brissy it usually means one of the worst days weather-wise for festivals with torrential downpours and a venue of muddy swamp varying in depth from ankle deep to thigh high wading! But this year? New venue and for the first time in longer than most can remember, it was sunny!! Not just sunny but a comfortable warm autumn’s day. The pitch was a little crispy after the damage from the Soundwave Festival the week before but other than that, it ran like clockwork. There was even no wait at the ticket booths (unlike the dogs breakfast of previous years) and a separate colleciton point for media, bless.
Highlight of the day goes to Rudimental, there’s something unbeatable about live drum and bass!

Roku Music gets the cover shot spot for this week’s The Music Magazine’s (Brisbane) – “The Guide” section.
We also hit up Future Music Festival to bare witness to the first time in years that it has been dry, not just dry but great weather all round! Could it have been the new venue? Quite possibly. Full review and a few highlight photos in the issue or you can grab a couple more highlights at the online version of the mag OR just hold on to your cotton tails and wait for the extended highlights from us, they’ll be up soon!
Read about them both in week’s issue of The Music (Brisbane) #028.

Well if there was ever a time to call an “Australia Day 2” on a music festival this would be it! Its no real secret that FMF is plagued with some of the worse weather Queensland can dish out each year but the music gods severely lost out this year with constant rain all day and atrocious ground conditions – to the point one of the main stages was closed early in the day, but apart from that it was non stop music and pyrotechnics!

Fatboy Slim
We’ve lost count of how many years Future has been under water, or mud as it were so when the previous day’s forecast said it was going to be partly cloudy we were skeptical but were really hoping for a good day. The day started with a bout of moderately heavy rain which laid a soggy foundation but thankfully held out for the better part of the day with only a few patches of light drizzle. Unfortunately it was too good to be true and as the headliners were beginning to take to the stage the weather man in the sky remembered what day it was and bucketed it down, but that didn’t stop us from getting some shots even with the thought of a dead flash courtesy of Soundwave Festival last week still fresh in my mind :-\
The sets however were nicely varied and LMFAO wasn’t heard -too- many times (though once is usually more than enough!) and dubstep seemed to be kept to its respective DJ’s. Highlights were definitely Aphex Twin with a lesson in how to play a broken beat set and Chase and Status with a mid afternoon stormer. PvD’s trance stage also provided a few sparks of interest to a genre I haven’t paid much attention to in a long time.

Die Antwoord
It seems what Mother Nature spared on Good Vibes this year, she lashed it on Future. Showers and rain the week prior as well as on the day left the venue more a boggy mess than anything that resembled a racecourse! Thankfully the music and production on display surpassed previous years (and festivals) with highlights of the day coming from industry forefathers like Leftfield, Chemical Brothers and Plastikman.
Keep an eye out for a bumper issue and full festival recap and our exclusive photos in this week’s 3D World Magazine.

Whoa! what a messy (of the dirty kind!) day that was! Contender for worse festival weather since Good Vibes 2009 but just as fun all the same.
Complete gallery coming soon.
