Those flash mob insta-party specialists, KANA have sadly called it quits after 7 years. With many secret and not so secret locations under their belt it was a series of events unlike anything Brisbane has seen, which had the backing of what many would call the “true” supporters of the dance community and its DJs, and in typical KANA fashion it was a outstanding event that came and went with barely a trace, bar a distant omnipresent bassline drone and a few sore heads the next day 😉

We’ve been told even though this is the end of these guerilla style events, they have a few other things in the works so there is some hope for those that have missed out 😉

Last weekend we popped down to the Kustom Krafts market on a sweltering 29C (for almost winter!) but beautiful day. If you like a spot of swing dancing, old cars or just about anything from or inspired by the 50s or 60s then this is the place for you! Check out their facebook page for details of their next event or if you’d like to man a stall yourself.

Hip hop royalty came together for a night of quality and a variety tunes. Even though they decided to come on 2 whole hours earlier than predicted, Pete Rock and DJ Premier played a set of classics and modern works from underground to commercial with plenty of running commentary in between. Far from a technical set but enjoyable none the less to catch two greats under the one roof!

Mr. X to the Z brought his versus Hip Hop show to the Chalk Hotel carpark for the first installlment of their Soundcheck series of hip hop events to be held over the next few months. Even with sound restrictions, X stomped through with his west coast flavour and unmistakeable pizazz and charm.
