Hip hop royalty came together for a night of quality and a variety tunes. Even though they decided to come on 2 whole hours earlier than predicted, Pete Rock and DJ Premier played a set of classics and modern works from underground to commercial with plenty of running commentary in between. Far from a technical set but enjoyable none the less to catch two greats under the one roof!

Mr. X to the Z brought his versus Hip Hop show to the Chalk Hotel carpark for the first installlment of their Soundcheck series of hip hop events to be held over the next few months. Even with sound restrictions, X stomped through with his west coast flavour and unmistakeable pizazz and charm.

Liffey Falls

Liffey Falls

After much championing and plenty of image teasing over the last few years from the likes of our buddy Mel Sinclair Photography we finally caved and decided to take a short break over Easter to try and catch the first part of the Fagus festival in Tasmainia. A week long event where hundreds of photographers decend on the southern isle to bear witness to the changing of colours of Australia’s only native deciduous beech tree, take a few photos and drinking lots of wine (or so I’m told 😉 ).

Being the start of the wet season it didn’t (DID!) disappoint with sour weather for all but one of the 5 days we were there. None the less, we still managed a few photos, some sightseeing and a whole bunch of windshield time traversing a sizeable portion of the landscape (just under 1000kms) in a less than ideal cheap rental car!

A full recollection of our experiences and photographic evidence will follow in an up and coming blog series. Till then we will leave you with the above shot of Liffey Falls on a rainy 3C day with 25kph winds no less!

The lads from Melbourne based but world renowned sneaker institution Sneaker Freaker brought their swap meet show to Brisbane for the first time a couple weeks back. Sneakers of all kinds of vintage and variety were on show, sale and available for trade. We even go in on the action with a stall of our own reluctantly parting ways with parts of our collections.

If you’re looking for more of this action, check out The Exchange on May 24th at Southbank. We’ll be back with a stall and will be rustling up extra goodies in the meantime (:
